Over the last two decades researchers have tried to unpack innovation spaces, innovation leadership, and how innovation leads to economic development. A focus of these studies for many years was the role universities play as significant contributors to entrepreneurship. However, only a handful of studies focus on student start-ups. In addition, much of the responsibility for the development and growth of students’ firms had been placed at universities while dismissing the role of the local innovation system. In response, this project will conduct a case study on students’ firms within the regional innovation ecosystem.
